My Promise: Helping Ava Find Her Way Back
In this story, I will share you a touching moment in Victoria, British Columbia, where I recount my experience of reaching out to a stranger in need and the incredible journey that followed.

I am Mia Davis, and I live in the charming town of Victoria, British Columbia. A few months a go, I decided to take a stroll through my neighborhood park, a place that usually brings me peace and joy. As I walked along the winding paths, I noticed a woman sitting on a bench, her face buried in her hands. Something about her distress tugged at my heart, and I felt an overwhelming urge to reach out.
I approached her slowly, asking if she was okay. When she looked up, I saw tears streaming down her cheeks. “I just lost my job,” she whispered, her voice trembling. In that moment, I realized how much a simple act of kindness could mean to someone in pain.
I sat down beside her and listened as she shared her story. Her name was Ava, and she had been working at a local bakery for over five years. The news of her layoff had shattered her hopes and dreams. As she spoke, I could feel the weight of her worries pressing down on her.
After our conversation, I felt compelled to help. I remembered a local job fair happening the following week and shared the details with her. We exchanged phone numbers, and I promised to follow up. Before parting ways, I offered her a small token of encouragement: a handwritten note with a quote that had always inspired me: “In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.” She smiled, and for the first time, I saw a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
Over the next few days, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that I needed to do more. I reached out to friends in the industry and shared Ava's story on social media, asking if anyone knew of job openings or could offer advice. The response was incredible! Within hours, I had received multiple leads and connections for her.
On the day of the job fair, I met Ava again, this time with a list of opportunities I had gathered. Her eyes widened as she looked at the names of companies hiring. We spent the day together, networking and applying for jobs. By the end of it, she had secured several interviews!
A week later, I received a call from Ava, her voice bubbling with excitement. She had landed a new job at a bakery that valued her skills and passion. I couldn’t help but feel a rush of joy for her. It was a reminder that sometimes, it only takes a small act of kindness to change someone’s life.
This experience taught me that we all have the power to make a difference, no matter how small. I encourage everyone to open their hearts and lend a hand to those in need. Together, we can create a ripple effect of kindness that inspires others to do the same.
Let’s continue to share our good deeds and uplift each other in this beautiful journey called life.
cheers everyone!
Mia
